Why Get an International Student Health Insurance Plan like StudentSecure®?

Unlike a traditional travel insurance plan, an international student travel insurance plan offers benefits designed around the general needs of a student who's spending some extended time outside their home country. Accidents, illnesses and other medical related situations can occur anytime and anywhere. It is important to have sufficient coverage for when they do.

Some key differences between our international student travel health insurance, StudentSecure® and a travel medical insurance plan like Atlas Travel is that StudentSecure® offers:

Not all students are created equal, so we have two plan levels to choose from: Select and Budget. We also recognize that as you continue to meet your educational goals and move up the collegiate ladder, so does your life stage and subsequent coverage needs. For that reason, both our StudentSecure® Select and StudentSecure® Budget plans offer coverage for not only the student or scholar, but for spouses and dependents that will be going abroad as well. StudentSecure® - Making Sure You Child is Protected While They Study Abroad

For many parents, it is a special moment in your life to see your child go off to college and it can be a difficult one as you let go. For those who are letting their child participate in a study abroad program, the worry could seem endless. The list of things to do is probably pages long and you're both trying to think of every detail. A parent's top priority is always to keep them safe, but sometimes that means something different then you'd expect. Before you send them off on that plane, sit down together and look at your current domestic health insurance coverage. Does it protect your son or daughter as they leave the boundaries of hte US? Does it provide the same level of coverage and customer service that you'd expect? For many, you may be surprised to find that many US domestic health insurance plans do not offer coverage while t your child travels abroad to study. Don't worry; the solution is far easier then you'd think. There are international plans designed specifically for international student travel, like our StudentSecure®.

StudentSecure® is designed specifically to meet the insurance needs of international students. Whether you are looking for individual coverage or coverage for the entire family, our Select and Budget options have the features you need. Each plan includes coverage for Emergency Medical Evacuation, Intercollegiate Sports, Acts of Terrorism and more!

To help ease your mind a little more, we've put together these:

10 Tips for Sending Your Child Overseas to Study Abroad
Tips for Sending Your Child Overseas to Study Abroad
  1. Set a budget. Although it may seem simple and your child may have already spent some time living away from home, setting and sticking to a budget is a hard goal to achieve. Especially if you're in a whole new world and don't want to miss a minute of it. You don't want your child to get caught up in the excitement and spend their whole month's allotment in the first week. With our StudentSecure® international student travel health insurance plan, you can stick to your budget by choosing either our Budget or Select plan.
  2. Keep in contact. Having a set check-in time with your child could help reduce anxiety on both of you. It is often a comfort to know that someone is there for you, even when you are in a faraway place. Our StudentSecure® student travel health insurance comes with 24/7 support through our World Service Center, as well as access to important information via our online Student Zone.
  3. Reduce fees. Be sure to shop around ahead of time for the best currency conversions fees at home. If carrying cash, set up a plan with your child to only carry the minimal amount of cash, as it can reduce the risk of theft and it can help to reduce international ATM withdraw fees. By applying for either our Budget or Select international student health insurance plans online and choosing a single premium payment, you can save over $50 in a year!
  4. Backup plan. Make copies of their IDs, passport, and credit cards in case they are stolen or lost. This way you can call right away to get them replaced and prevent any financial or identity loss. If needed, we can help with lost passports and travel documents, as part of our travel assistance services, which come free with every StudentSecure® student travel insurance plan.
  5. Check the fine print. As part of most financial institution's protection policies, card access is sometimes temporarily frozen when unexpected transactions are occurring from other countries. To make sure your child doesn't get stuck at the train station, be sure check the policies and procedures for the banks and credit card. It is also important that you check your domestic insurance coverage to see if your child is covered while overseas. In many cases, it could be for an inadequate amount. With one of our international student travel health insurance plans, you can be rest assured your child is covered while they study abroad.
  6. Street smarts. Although we think it is common sense, it is still important to remind your child of how to make sure they aren't targeted as a tourist for pick pockets. Remind them to dress casual and try to blend in; as well as to make sure their purse and backpack are zipped and to never put anything of importance in their back pockets or open pockets. Should a theft or loss were to occur, we can help with credit card and traveler's check replacements as part of the services we provide each member for travel assistance.
  7. Make a list. Keep track of your child's travel itineraries for airline flights, train departures, and planned accommodations. Make sure you write down the specific names of the stations, airlines and hotels, as there may be more than one. Keep a copy for yourself and give one to your son or daughter. In case of an emergency, we can help in making any necessary travel arrangements as part of our travel assistance services for our members.
  8. Plan ahead. Reduce anxiety and cost by booking and paying for their lodging and transportation as they journey to their final destination. This way they aren't worrying about handling things as they are adjusting to the new sights and sounds. Some have found that if you are staying for a week or more, purchasing a rail pass may be more economical then paying daily fare. Should plans change, we can help as our members receive access to a full list of travel assistance services, like reservation changes for lodging and transportation.
  9. Emergency contacts. Put together a list of emergency contacts and their information for people in the US and for your child's host family, school and local police and hospitals. If help is needed in locating and contacting the local embassy or consulate, we can help refer our international student health insurance members, as part of our travel assistance services available 24/7, 365 days a year!
  10. Health insurance. We've said it before, but it is worth mentioning again. Make sure your child is protected for little things like the flu and big things that would potentially require emergency medical evacuations. Get international student health insurance before they go.
